November

Photography's month by decree: the fair at the Grand Palais, the Louvre finally opening its own, and Venice closing on the 22nd.

The Ministry of Culture has declared a Photography Bicentenary and November behaves accordingly. Paris Photo runs its 29th edition at the Grand Palais; the Louvre opens its first photography exhibition eight days earlier. Venice closes In Minor Keys on the 22nd. Turin and Cologne hold the fairs on either side.

The twenty-ninth edition, folded into the state's official Photography Bicentenary. The Pompidou, closed for its rebuild, sends around a hundred photographs from its collection as the fair's centrepiece exhibition. The Elles trail and the Aperture book awards return. The book aisles are still where the afternoons go.

A museum 170 years late. Plans for a photography museum at the Louvre first circulated in the 1850s. None was built. Louvre Photo opens on 4 November inside the state's official bicentenary year, which runs for thirteen months.
