November

Photography's month by decree: the fair at the Grand Palais, the Louvre finally opening its own, and Venice closing on the 22nd.

The Ministry of Culture has declared a Photography Bicentenary and November behaves accordingly. Paris Photo runs its 29th edition at the Grand Palais; the Louvre opens its first photography exhibition eight days earlier. Venice closes In Minor Keys on the 22nd. Turin and Cologne hold the fairs on either side.

12 NOV Grand Palais Paris

The twenty-ninth edition, folded into the state's official Photography Bicentenary. The Pompidou, closed for its rebuild, sends around a hundred photographs from its collection as the fair's centrepiece exhibition. The Elles trail and the Aperture book awards return. The book aisles are still where the afternoons go.

— A museum 170 years late. Plans for a photography museum at the Louvre first circulated in the 1850s. None was built. Louvre Photo opens on 4 November inside the state's official bicentenary year, which runs for thirteen months.
